Winter of '09-'10 Throughout this season I will be performing George Crumb's epic "Gnomic Variations", combined with Jochem Slothouwer's "Toccate" (1981), several of the Henry Cowell compositions as well as my own works. My concerts will be at the WFMT/Salon series & the Experimental Piano Series of Pianoforte Chicago, as well as at Joplin's Java and for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. New works In September of 2009 I finished a new set of piano pieces called Rifflesioni, performed live on WFMT on September 18, 2009. Click here to see and hear samples. The work is dedicated to three dear friends who left this world in the past months. If you would like to see the entire score, please e-mail me with your request at info@huydts.com. I hope to finish my Violin and Piano Sonata, started in 2007 in the next few weeks. It has taken some time, but sometimes time is what it takes! In early 2010 I will be recording my first solo CD, to be released shortly thereafter. Stay tuned for more information. In January I finished my Cinc Esgrafiats for Orchestra based on texts by the Catalan Poet Miquel Martí i Pol. It is out! Acclaimed Flutist Mary Stolper has recorded Music for Flute and Piano as part of the Chicago Duos CD for the Cedille Records label. This recording was released in 2003 and the work got a favorable review in the Gramophone. I am thrilled to announce that my Sonata Breve for Bassoon and Piano was accepted for publication by Jeanne Inc publishing of Minnesota. Beautifully set, the piece can be purchased online here. More works to be published are under consideration. Upcoming Events! On Friday, April 9, at 6PM, at PianoForte in the Fine Arts Building, I will be performing a selection of Henry Cowell's ground breaking works for piano, along with John Eaton's mesmerizing Microtonal Fantasy (1962/1989) for two (!) pianos, tuned a quarter tone apart, for a single player. I will also perform George Crumb's epic "Gnomic Variations" for piano. The concert is part of PianoForte's Experimental series. For complete details, click here.
