Sebastian Huydts - Just Listen

for Bass Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Prepared Piano and Percussion

Just listen was written in june 1992 at the request of the Goldflower Trio in Amsterdam. It was premiered in July of that year at the IJsbreker, Amsterdam's center for modern music. Just listen consists of twelve short pieces that follow one another without interruption. The work can be described as polystylistic: Inspired by works by Alfred Schnittke, I wanted to experiment with different styles and yet create a sense of cohesion. As a work, "Just Listen" both seriously and lightheartedly reflects on styles and fashions that can be found in the rich history of western music in the 20th century.
